EUROPA stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations/ enterprises under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.
EUROPA stamps underlines cooperation in the posts domain, taking into account promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals. As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world.
Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe’s desire for closer integration and cooperation. In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps.
Initially stamps were a common design in all countries but since 1974 the designs have a common theme. The theme elected by Post Europe in 2009 was ‘Astronomy’. In 2010 the theme elected is “Children books” All stamps have Europa written on them

Albanian Beer Feast 2010 in Korca

albania beer festival

Beer Fest, the largest festival in Albania, has been honored with the Albanian Tourism Prize.
The Korça Beer Fest, already a festival well-known throughout all of Albania and the region, has been honored with the Albanian Tourism Prize, awarded by the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, and the Albanian Tourism Association.

The assembled jury of well-known names, including international figures, recognized the Municipality of Korça and its project “Beer Fest” as the best and most special of its kind for promoting Korça as a tourist destination.

The concept for the beer festival began in 2007, continuing in full throughout the following years in all its components. Besides the festival concept and complete package that it offers (infrastructure, participation, show, decorative elements, etc), organizers have used a communications and promotion strategy that has directed the Korça beer festival to an unconditional     success.

The jury qualified Beer Fest as one of the best-practice examples for other cities of Albania and honored it with the Albanian Tourism Prize for 2010, as an ongoing effort of the Municipality, private businesses and social groups from the city of Korça and their contributions to the strengthening of the Albanian tourism sector. Amongst the 16 competitors taking part in the selection were municipalities, organizations and agencies operating in the field of tourism.

Beer Fest has become, in this manner, a fixed date in calendars, drawing national and international attention.

Lef Nosi - Father of Albanian Philately

Lef Nosi - Father of Albanian Philately

Lef Nosi (1877 in Elbasan, Ottoman Empire – 1946) was an Albanian politician and collaborationist during the Second World War. He was one of the signatories of Albanian Declaration of Independence. Nosi was the first Minister of Post and Telegraphs of Albania (1912). Nosi was the first minister of Post-Telegraphs in the Provisional Government of Albania and in 1918 he became Minister of Economy and Social Relations. During the Second World War, in 1943 Nosi was chosen as a member of the Albanian High Council, a structure formed by Nazi Germany in Albania.

In 1946, Nosi was executed by the communist-led government of Albania as a collaborationist.[1]

Albania Stamps 1993 Mediterranean Games Michel Block 99

The Mediterranean Games are a multi-sport games held every four years, mainly for nations bordering the Mediterranean Sea, where Europe, Africa and Asia meet. The idea was proposed at the 1948 Summer Olympics by Muhammed Taher Pasha, chairman of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and they were first held in 1951. The first 10 games took place always one year preceding the Olympics. However, from 1993 on, they were held the year following the Olympic games.
The Games were inaugurated on October 1951, in Alexandria, Egypt, in honour of Muhammed Taher Pasha, the man to whom their inspiration is owed, with contests being held in 13 sports along with the participation of 734 athletes from 10 countries. Ever since, they take place every 4 years without any interruption. In 1955, in Barcelona, during the II Games, the set up was decided of a Supervisory and Controlling Body for the Games, a kind of Executive Committee. The decisions were finally materialized on June 16, 1961, and the said Body was named, upon a Greek notion, ICMG (International Committee for the Mediterranean Games).

Albania Stamps - 1993 Fang Bardhi Michel Block 100

Albania Stamps - 1993 Fank Bardhi Block 100

He was born in Kallmet or Nënshat in the northern Albanian Zadrima region near Lezhë. He came from a family consisting of many figures high in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church and state officials or military commanders of the Republic of Venice. His uncle was Bishop of Sapa and Sarda. In 1606 he studied theology in Italy. In 1636 he was appointed Bishop of Sapa and Sarda.
Bardhi is remembered as the author of the first Albanian dictionary: Dictionarium latino-epiroticum, Rome 1635 (Latin-Albanian dictionary), comprising 5,640 entries. He also wrote a biography of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg.[1] From 1637 on, Frang Bardhi submitted reports in Italian and Latin to the Congregation of the Propaganda FideRome which contain a mine of information about his diocese, about political developments, about Albanian customs and about the structure and position of the Catholic Church in Ottoman-occupied Albania
