A GREAT GIFT AND A GREAT HANDWORK
Filigree (formerly written filigrann or filigrene) is a delicate kind of jewellery metalwork made with twisted threads usually of gold and silver or stitching of the same curving motifs. It often suggests lace, and in recent centuries remains popular in Indian and other Asian metalwork, and French from 1660 to the late 19th century. It should not be confused with ajoure jewellery work; while both have many open areas, filigree involves threads being soldered together to form an object and ajoure involves holes being punched, drilled, or cut through an existing piece of metal.
The word, often thought derived from the Latin filum, thread, and granum, grain, is not found in Du Cange, and is indeed of modern origin. According to Prof. Skeat it derives from the Spanish filigrana, from "filar", to spin, and grano, the grain or principal fibre of the material. By extension, it may be used in a number of contexts to describe anything considered delicate, intricate and elaborate.
Filigrani (filigrann shkruar më parë ose filigrami) është një lloj pune delikate prej metali per berjen e stolive me ane te telave te përdredhur zakonisht prej ari dhe argjendi ose qepur nga motive të njëjta. Shpesh perdoret grepi, dhe në shekujt e fundit mbetet popullor në indi dhe vendet e tjera aziatike, dhe franceze nga 1660 në fund të shekullit të 19. Ajo nuk duhet të ngatërrohet me punë stoli ajoure, ndërsa të dy kanë shumë fusha të hapura, filigrani përfshin fijen duke u ngjitur së bashku për të formuar një objekt .
Fjala, rrjedh nga filum Latine, fije, dhe granum, grurit, nuk është gjetur në Du Cange, dhe është me të vërtetë me origjinë moderne. Sipas Prof Skeat burimin e ka nga filigrana spanjolle, nga "me pejza", të tjerr, dhe grano, fibër kokërr ose kryesore të materialit. Nga extension, ajo mund të përdoret në një numër të konteksteve për të përshkruar diçka qe konsiderohet delikate, e ndërlikuar per tu perpunuar.
